Early years and first deal
Timur Turlov’s path to the world of investments began at an early age. At the age of 15, while still a schoolboy, he made his first deal with securities. «My first investment was shares of Dalenergo, an energy company in Russia,» recalls Timur Turlov. However, his first experience was not entirely successful. He bought shares and, following his curiosity, checked their price daily. Haste and indecision played their role: he sold the shares with a small loss, but later the share price increased sevenfold in a few months. This experience became key to the formation of his investment principles.
«If you want to win, learn to wait,» says Turlov, and this lesson became the first and fundamental rule in his career. In the future, the entrepreneur repeatedly emphasized the importance of discipline and endurance in the investment process. He taught that the most important quality of a successful investor is the ability to think in the long term, without giving in to impulsive decisions.
Founding Freedom Finance and the philosophy of crisis
The financial crisis of 2008 played a significant role in Turlov’s life. It was during this period, when most companies were reducing their risks and waiting for better times, that Timur decided to take a bold step — to found Freedom Finance. At a time of global uncertainty, he did not wait for the «perfect moment», but saw in the crisis a chance to create something new. «The greatest fortunes are forged in times of uncertainty. When something collapses, it means that someone can build something new,» said Timur Turlov, arguing that crises are not a time for fear, but rather a time for ambitious steps.
He is confident that such moments open up unique opportunities for growth and innovation. This philosophy has become the basis for all his major projects, from the entry of Freedom Finance into the European market to the creation of Freedom Telecom, a new business line in Kazakhstan.
