Iran may break the record for the fastest creation of an atomic bomb

Deputy head of the Pentagon Kahl said that Iran is capable of producing an atomic bomb in 12 days. Iran is capable of producing an atomic bomb in 12 days, Pentagon Deputy Chief Colin Kahl said. He is quoted by Reuters.

“In 2018, it would take Iran about 12 months to produce one bomb from a stockpile of fissile materials. And now it would take him 12 days,” he said, noting Iran’s “impressive progress” in the nuclear field since the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

According to the deputy defense minister, returning to cooperation under the JCPOA would be «the best option of all» in order to prevent Iran from acquiring its own nuclear weapons, but the US is not considering this option. “I don’t think we are on the verge of returning to a JCPOA,” Kahl stressed.

In 2015, the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Russia, the United States, France and Iran concluded a nuclear deal — the JCPOA, which implies the lifting of sanctions in exchange for limiting Iran’s nuclear program. In 2018, during the presidency of Donald Trump, the United States announced its withdrawal from the FDP and the restoration of sanctions against Iran. So far, Washington has not reached an understanding on restoring the nuclear deal.
